How Astraea works
Complete Message and Voice goals independently before server-local midnight. Managers can configure Astraea in the dashboard or with /setup in Discord.
Set up your server
You need Manage Server to save server settings. Reward-role editing also needs Manage Roles. Astraea’s bot role must have access to tracking channels and any optional announcement or reward roles.
Choose the server day
Message and Voice Flames reset at midnight in this timezone. Choose it explicitly; later changes begin after the current day.
Choose message channels
Use all public channels or choose where messages count. Threads follow their parent rules; optional exclusions are in Advanced settings.
Choose voice channels
Use all eligible normal voice channels or select specific channels. Two qualifying humans must share one; muting counts, deafening/AFK/Stage do not. Exclusions are in Advanced settings.
Choose announcements and reminders
Completion announcements are optional. Reminders are on for members with a running streak (each member can switch them off) and stay limited to one risk DM per day.
Review and save
Check channel access, optional reward roles and the server day. Changes start only after you save.
Quick recommended setup applies channel defaults to a draft for review. It does not save automatically, change your timezone, enable announcements or alter reminder consent.
The dashboard’s setup checklist checks saved settings against current Discord permissions. Missing and unknown results need a fix or a recheck before setup is considered ready.
Message Flame
Complete 100 qualifying messages before server-local midnight. Short replies and occasional emoji or media can count. Bots, webhooks, reactions and system messages do not.
Deterministic anti-spam rules exclude repeated text or media, farming patterns, rapid bursts and mention spam. Use /time for your private exclusion summary.
Voice Flame
Spend 15 minutes in an eligible voice channel with at least one other qualifying human. Self-muted and server-muted members count. Deafened members, bots, lone users, AFK and Stage channels do not.
Astraea records presence and time, never audio. Progress can take up to a minute to appear. Disconnected time is not credited.
Daily reset
Message and Voice Flames have independent streaks and goals. Both daily goals reset at midnight in the server timezone, including daylight-saving changes. A new timezone applies after the current period.
A missed goal resets that Flame’s current streak; the personal best remains. Known tracking outages protect unfinished prior streaks without awarding an extra day; short bot restarts (under 2 minutes that day) don’t count as an outage.
Server Flames
Whole communities compete on one global board. Every server has two Server Flames: a Message Server Flame and a Voice Server Flame. Every day (midnight UTC for all servers), each one grows when enough members reach Astraea’s standard for it: 100 qualifying messages for Message, 15 qualifying voice minutes for Voice. Server settings can’t lower it.
The number needed grows with the square root of members active in the last 14 days: 3 message and 2 voice members for small servers, up to 25 and 10 for the largest. A missed goal resets that Server Flame; known outages protect it. The board ranks servers by their stronger Server Flame. Accounts younger than 7 days or new to the server for under 3 days don’t count. See it in /leaderboard → Global servers, where managers can also hide their server.
Milestones & badges
Each Flame celebrates milestones at 7, 30, 50, 100, 200 and 365 days, then every 100 days. Your highest milestone per Flame shows as a badge on your /flame card. Announcement channels post every completion (tagging the member) by default; managers can switch to milestones only.
Achievements: First Spark (first daily goal here), Double Flame (both goals on the same day), Comeback (rebuild a lost streak to 7) and Server Hero (helped your server earn a Server Flame). Badges belong to one server, and private profiles are never announced.
Weekly quests & Embers
Every Monday (00:00 UTC) each server gets three quests for the week: social voice quests (for example 30 minutes in voice with 3 or more people) and community quests (for example being counted on a day your server earns its Server Flame). Everyone in the server gets the same three.
Each finished quest gives 10 Embers; all three give a 15 Ember bonus. Embers will be spendable later. Quest badges: Quest Starter, Perfect Week and Quest Legend (4 perfect weeks in a row). See them with /quests or on your dashboard.
Flame Freezes
A Flame Freeze is used automatically when you miss a day on a Flame with a streak. It saves that one Flame for that one day: the streak stays the same instead of resetting. Missing both Flames needs two Freezes (Message is saved first). You can hold at most 2 per server.
Freezes are rare. Earn one by finishing the monthly Ember Trial in a server: a daily goal on 20 days, both goals on 8 days, and 10 hours of voice with others. One Freeze per month at most. Track it with /time or on your dashboard.
Public server pages
Managers can publish an optional page at /server/your-name from the dashboard (Public page): description, up to three links and an accent colour, plus the Server Flame, last 30 days and anonymous community numbers. Published servers appear on the Servers directory. Member names are never shown.
Privacy & reminders
Private profiles are excluded from other-user lookups, leaderboards and public announcements. Valid anonymous activity still contributes to server totals.
Risk reminders require each member’s permission and can be disabled by the server. Message and Voice risks are combined, with at most one risk DM per account in 24 hours. Change these choices in /settings profile or profile settings.
